SX:TV wins national award!

The Students’ Union’s TV channel, SX:TV has won a top award for its work at the most prestigious event in the student TV calendar, the National Student Television Awards.

Despite being less than a year old, SX:TV was nominated in an impressive four categories at the awards and scooped the award for ‘Best Ident’, seeing off competition from some of the best established and most well-funded student TV stations in the country including Leeds, Exeter, Loughborough and Oxford.

Eight members of the SX:TV student team attended the black-tie award ceremony, which was held in Southampton on Saturday 28th March. SX:TV’s winning entry was their ‘Tiger’ promo, which was filmed on the Colchester campus at the unearthly hour of 4am back in June last year.

Reflecting on his team’s success Station Manager Ricardo Clarke said “We are now officially on the student media map as far as TV is concerned, which is a massive achievement, and students from other Universities were coming to give us praise after the awards.”

“Over the course of the past year student TV at Essex has changed dramatically, from a re-brand at the start of the year all the way through to us winning this award.”

“We’re now recruiting for a new station manager for the year ahead and I’m really proud that there are people that are inspired to take SX:TV forward next year.

“I’d like to thank the Students’ Union for all their support, especially Arnold and the Marketing Team, and would like to pay particular credit to John Moore, Daniel and Sarah from the University’s AVMS department who have given us so much of their time, expertise and support”.
